Can't find resources on Private Capital Advisory / Private Funds Advisory.

I’m an undergraduate looking to recruit for Private Capital Advisory (PCA) at Lazard / Evercore / UBS, etc.

I previously interned at a boutique placement agent in a PCA-type role, where I worked mainly on primary fundraises / LP outreach / DDQ-type work, and really enjoyed the fast-paced and client-facing nature of the role. However, my work had limited exposure to secondaries (LP-led / GP-led) and the modeling.

I have searched far and wide on the internet but have not been able to find any dedicated resource on PCA.

If anyone would know of any resource (PDF, book, online course, 400Q equivalent, etc.) on PCA, I would really appreciate it.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, Private Capital Advisory (PCA) is a niche and technical field, and finding dedicated resources can indeed be challenging. While there may not be a single comprehensive guide or "400Q equivalent" for PCA, here are some actionable steps and resources to help you deepen your understanding and prepare for recruitment:

  1. Leverage WSO Resources:

    • WSO offers Private Equity Interview Prep and Investment Banking Interview Prep materials, which can provide foundational knowledge on financial modeling, deal structuring, and technical skills relevant to PCA.
    • Explore the WSO Company Database to research firms like Lazard, Evercore, and UBS, and gain insights into their PCA divisions.
  2. Focus on Secondary Advisory (SA):

    • PCA often involves secondary advisory work, which includes advising GPs on fund structuring and LPs on liquidity solutions. This is a highly technical area, so brushing up on DCF modeling, LBO modeling, and fund structuring concepts is crucial. WSO's Financial Modeling Resources and templates can be a great starting point.
  3. Networking and Informational Interviews:

    • Reach out to professionals in PCA roles at your target firms. Many WSO threads emphasize the importance of networking to gain insights into the day-to-day responsibilities and technical requirements of PCA roles.
  4. Supplementary Learning:

    • While there isn't a dedicated PCA book or course, you can benefit from general private equity and investment banking resources. Look for materials on secondary market transactions, fundraising processes, and GP/LP dynamics.
    • Consider online platforms like Coursera or Udemy for courses on private equity and advanced financial modeling.
  5. WSO Forums and Discussions:

    • Engage with the WSO community by participating in forums related to PCA. Threads discussing secondary advisory, GP-led restructurings, and LP-led transactions can provide valuable insights.
  6. Mock Interviews and Resume Reviews:

    • Use WSO's Mock Interviews and Resume Review services to tailor your preparation for PCA roles. Highlight your boutique placement agent experience and emphasize your client-facing skills and primary fundraising exposure.

While a single, dedicated PCA resource may not exist, combining these tools and strategies will help you build a strong foundation and stand out in the recruitment process.
