I do not have my CFA charter yet, but I assume earning your CFA is as beneficial as you make it out to be. It also never hurts to earn something like that.
Its more beneficial for the guy that spent long hours truly learning and understanding the material and is passionate about it. That guy would be an expert in the field and would obviously do better in interviews.
The other guy that temporarily remembered the bare minimum to pass may not get as much out of it though.
