Chances for SA internship as a Physics major
Hello,
so right now I am looking for internship opportunities in 2021, and I wanted to get some information re. which firms I can apply to given my profile/background.
So I am a final-year undergraduate (physics) with strong grades (among the best 7% in my cohort, would be a First in the UK), which isn't phenomenal but still respectable.
I know how to code in Python (some Kaggle competitions) and C#, I did some extracurricular activites like joining the finance club at my university and taking a leading role there, or Model United Nations stuff (in New York). I will begin a one-year master program in the UK in 2021, so my graduation date would be 2022. I also got scholarships, participated in math competitions at high school, do professional swimming, write some music, and did a year abroad at Oxford.
Overall, I would say I am well-rounded and on the quantitative side of things, but not geeky enough for prop trading stuff.
Biggest drawback in my CV that I can see is:
I do not come from a target university (best physics university in Germany, but not very known in Finance)
I only did two spring interships (JP Morgan and BAML) and have not gotten any relevant work experience ever since, due to lab work, summer schools, the Covid pandemic (internship got cancelled) and my year abroad. I know this looks ***, but the only real opportunity (time - wise) I had was this summer and then everythings gets cancelled...
So, given this background, do you have any firms in mind that I can apply to, and where my applications isn't guaranteed to land in the bin?
Any help is greatly appreciated, and thanks for your time!
