Checked out lateral A2 with Buyside offer - How to coast?

I lateraled into my current group as an A2 and was very fortunate to have signed an offer for MM PE

Don’t really like the group I lateraled too (people are bullies, work is especially repetitive, and turn over sucks).

Wondering if you have any tips on how to coast and mentally check out till I get the bonus and leave?

Analyst 2 in IB - Cov, bummer your thread hasn't had a response yet. Sometimes bots are smarter than humans anyways:

did you start on-cycle right after you lateraled? was it a jump from MM to BB? probably best way to coast is leverage A1, try to still do decent work but a bit slower, and overstate task length time (assuming you're in a big group and hard to track everyone and no formal staffing sheet) or build more rapport with seniors to get away w things

makes sense, was it really worth lateraling to a BB to help w oncycle? doubt you had enough time to have full deal length cycle experience at BB, did you speak mostly to your deals at the previous bank? sometimes im wondering the marginal if any benefit of going from MM or boutique to BB to hit on cycle right away? would love to hear your insight since you did this

100% worth it. Spoke mostly about the deals I did prior and the one I was currently staffed. It helps because:

  • Head hunters were more active in reaching out to me in new BB role versus at my prior bank
  • My experience with buyside recruiting was that it was first about the bank your currently in, followed by school / gpa. The lateral move was crucial to getting interviews
  • I’d recommend it but I’d hold off until you feel ready. I definitely wasn’t as prepared as I’d like and learning the new job + studying for recruiting was a massive grind

In that odd in between where as a lateral, need to prove self to group but massively demotivated because of offer on hand and overall horrible people in my current group. Hope that helps!
