CIBC Power & Infrastructure

Can anyone give some insight into how CIBC does in Power & Infrastructure versus the other banks? I assume they are quite strong within Canada but how are they perceived in the US / globally? How competitive is the group when it comes to buyside placement into top GPs / LPs?

Not strong. Had an offer and turned it down. The way I understood was CIBC pulled out its US operation because of 09 and when they tried to get back, everything was late. Their NY team basically had around 30ish people across the office, which includes DCM, LevFin, and Private Placement. Power Infra focused heavily on PP/project finance and less on advisory. And answering your question, basically no.

Hey thanks for your insight. If the role was based in Canada, do you think the experience / perception of candidacy from an employer's POV would be any different?

Did you do your SA stint there? If you did, how was the experience, and did the CIBC name make it easier when it comes to FT recruiting/interviews?

How is the Calgary office perceived by the broader team aside from that? Is CIBC a top shop when it comes to power / infrastructure  within Canada?
