CIBC Power & Infrastructure
Can anyone give some insight into how CIBC does in Power & Infrastructure versus the other banks? I assume they are quite strong within Canada but how are they perceived in the US / globally? How competitive is the group when it comes to buyside placement into top GPs / LPs?

Not strong. Had an offer and turned it down. The way I understood was CIBC pulled out its US operation because of 09 and when they tried to get back, everything was late. Their NY team basically had around 30ish people across the office, which includes DCM, LevFin, and Private Placement. Power Infra focused heavily on PP/project finance and less on advisory. And answering your question, basically no.
Hey thanks for your insight. If the role was based in Canada, do you think the experience / perception of candidacy from an employer's POV would be any different?
Perhaps. Not very experienced with Canada
Did you do your SA stint there? If you did, how was the experience, and did the CIBC name make it easier when it comes to FT recruiting/interviews?
“Had an offer and turned it down.” The other thing I’ve heard was that the number of hire was poor because the team was so small. Hope that helps
Any thoughts on their European presence?
If you're talking about the Calgary office, I'd stay the hell away unless they've restaffed a certain senior. haven't worked there but have heard horror stories.
How is the Calgary office perceived by the broader team aside from that? Is CIBC a top shop when it comes to power / infrastructure within Canada?
definitely one of the better shops, but don't work in the sector so can't comment with absolute certainty
Mind saying if they're still there?
no they’ve left but don’t know if they filled the seat with someone equally psychopathic
I think I know who you are talking about about I'm pretty sure they left the firm
Their P&U group (known there as Energy, Infrastructure, and Transition) is one of the best in Canada, especially in renewable and energy transition as they have been killing it in that space (its also a big focus for them going forward)
are you working at CIBC? Asking because i recently interviewed with them and wanted to see if they are still hiring or have already hired someone else pls & thank you
Has anyone here heard back for a third round for CIBC's EIT team in Toronto?
Their posting is back up, looks like no one moved on
