i'd rec starting in around sept tbh. cuz many analysts are going to exit to pe/vc/etc...and then they also get trackers around that time. maybe if it's active alums then it's ok but i def wouldn't start mass outreach until at least after labor day

Another reason why is ideally I'd like to do in-person chats but given my uni's location its not feasible to do that in Toronto/NYC during the school year. Would you have any updated advice based on that? (And if in-person chats make a difference)

Tbh I personally didn't go for in person chats and was still able to land top eb/bbs. it isn't going to be a massive difference maker but the effort put into going in person def does help from the general thought i've heard. timing advice would not change much still. I also think that in the summer they would be spending more time into chatting with the current intern class. ask your upperclassmen who recently recruited for advice too, as it may be better suited for your situation. hope this helpss!

Most freshmen aren't competent enough to network (properly), and you'd likely burn more bridges than anything else. You want to save your networking for sophomore fall so that you can leverage your summer experience to not sound stupid.

That being said, please network with seniors at your school NOW. Warm connections are fine to get a jump start on, since you can do so in a lower stakes environment and slowly build up rapport.
