Cold outreach clarification

Hi, im a freshman at a non-target looking for internships for this upcoming summer to position me well for recruiting next year. I know that the best roles are ones in boutique investment banks. I was wondering how to go about procuring these types of roles especially when many of these firms don’t have formal recruiting processes. Would I just email an MD/VP/AS and ask them if their firm has openings for interns or approach them for a chat and ask them at the end of the chat? Any help on this would be extremely beneficial, thank you in advance.
