Compensation Debate: BB vs. Middle Market

It seems that despite MM being all cash bonuses the all in salary seems to be higher at Analyst, Associate levels. Is there a significant drop off in comp at the VP, Director and MD levels? Trying to figure out why BB MDs wouldn't just go to MM if they can make more. Obviously other factors influence a switch but only referring to comp here. Any insights are appreciated.
