Competing for a job with my nepo best friend

Hey guys, kind of facing a weird and uncomfortable situation now.

I met this guy in college and we quickly became best friends. I come from a comfortable background with no connection to finance but his dad is a connected banker.

We're now both trying to get into the top MM boutique in our area. I told him I wanted to go there and then he decided he wanted it too.

We're now going into the interview process. He keeps making jokes that he'll ask his dad to get him the job (his dad is good friends with the group head), and he could very well have it because of that.

Meanwhile, I only have the connections from networking on my own (1+ year of networking; 2 An, 1 D), and I have a solid resume for the job while he does not have any relevant experience.

It's getting to the point where I am becoming ffrustrated because I know that he will ask his dad at some point, and I feel like he's taking it away from me.

I agree that in most case anyone would use their family connection in a process, but even when you're impacting the recruitment of a friend?

What should I do?

hahaha was in a similar scenario, but roles reversed with a boy.

Just have an abundance mindset, you two can both have jobs at the best banks in the world without cannibalising each others success. Don't let this ruin your friendship.

Will go much further together than apart and "competing", because you were never really ever in competition with him.

Just talk to him man he’s your best friend

“Love you buddy but I grinded for this job, do me a favour: don’t nepo this one, let the best man win. Maybe they’ll have us both anyway.”
