Converting to FT from Off-cycle (Lon)
Hello everyone!
Hope everyone has a great start to 2025!
As the title suggests, I’m starting an off-cycle. This is at an EB in London (PCA), Jun - Dec 2025.
I graduated this summer and got my Master’s from a non-target. I believe I won’t be eligible from Grad roles starting 2026 as by then 2 years would have passed since my graduation.
The firm I’ll be going to was THE dream place for me to have received an offer from so I really want to maximise my chances of conversion. Does anyone have any advice on this? What can I do to absolutely max out my chances to convert? Obviously I plan to work my ass off and try to be the go-to intern/network like crazy while there, but anything else?
On the other hand, in case there are no places/I don’t manage to convert, what are my options? The firm opens grad applications in August and runs ACs throughout Autumn, would it be weird/frowned upon for me to apply to that and go through the process while being an intern?
Should I try to network with people at other firms?
Any and all advice would be really appreciated! And thanks for taking the time to read my post!
To maximize your chances of converting your off-cycle internship into a full-time role at an elite boutique (EB) in London, here’s what you need to focus on:
Excel in Your Work:
Build Relationships:
Showcase Your Fit:
Seek Feedback:
Prepare for the Unexpected:
Leverage Your Internship:
Technical and Behavioral Prep:
In summary, focus on excelling in your role, building strong relationships, and keeping your options open. Applying for the graduate role while interning is not unusual, and networking with other firms is a prudent strategy. Best of luck!

Congrats on your offer! I believe many grad schemes are for people who are either graduating in the year advertised or are recent graduates who graduated less than 2 years prior, so you should be okay for most firms, though I would definitely double check.
Regarding your off cycle, I was wondering if you have any advice for its recruitment? I'm doing a summer analyst stint this summer but am also graduating then, and so am on the lookout for off cycles and am keen to get advice. Best of luck with your role and thanks!
Congrats on your Summer role! I can’t really advise on off-cycles. Was interviewing for a grad role myself and one of my interviewers was the head of this dept - who recommended I be considered for their off-cycle so got my foot in the door there after multiple other meetings post-AC. In terms of prep there was plenty of technicals (mostly LBOs and valuation techniques and a lot of motivation questions (why this bank/why this dept/how did you getting interested in banking/advisory… that type of stuff.)
Hey, I did an off-cycle internship at a BB and converted it.
1. When you first hit the desk, connect with your team and build a relationship with them via coffee chats - this serves as an opportunity to understand what type of people they like to work with, what they want from you, advice and most importantly presenting an opportunity to be staffed on a deal (Analysts/Associates/VP) - above is to build a connection/relationship - at the end of the day the seniors decide your return offer
2. I recommend preparing in advance as much as possible. Everyone will understand you are new and won't know everything, but knowing all the basics and not making stupid mistakes like not paying attention to detail or understanding basic corporate finance concepts, markets, etc. will leave a good first impression and help you gain their trust quickly.
3. Don't think it's a good idea to apply internally and go through a separate process as it shows you're not committed to your job/not focused? As you go through the internship, do ask the staffer about headcount ensuring that there is a place for you FT, if not then continue doing a good job and ask around returning to other divisions internally. (I've seen this happen several times where such candidates leave a very good impression on relevant seniors so they had their backs)
This is all great advice, thank you!
Thanks for sharing, very helpful! May I ask how long have you been working as an Off-Cycle? Does everyone need to wait until summer finish to go into the graduate pool together for final list? Or as long as there maybe a hc, the conversion can happen anytime? Thanks!
Off-cycles are generally 3-6 months. Headcounts and graduation dates matter.
varies from bank to bank - some join FT straight after OC, some require you to be penultimate - and yes everything depends on HC.
Hi man!
Sorry to raise back an old thread..
Wanted to ask approx. When you were told that you’d be returning after your OC (Like how many months into the internship) and did you continue straight away or was there a break in-between?
I’m about to start soon and was wondering about the timings, considering all the visa hassle and flat hunting and everything…
