Corporate M&A layoff... Pivoted back in the Valuation industry. Thoughts?
Hi guys.. I was recently laid off from my Corporate M&A role at a cloud communications firm. The company’s M&A has frozen for the rest of the year and consequently my position was eliminated. For the time being, I have pivoted back in the valuation industry (avoiding any unnecessary gaps in my resume)
My background: I had ~3 years of valuation experience before my M&A gig, along with a Masters in Finance. I started my Corp Dev role later in 2019. I was able to close a small deal during my short tenure, however, I was unlucky that I couldn’t continue my journey for long.
I would highly appreciate your inputs/thoughts on my step of going back in the valuation industry for now. My rationale was that it will be hard to find a transactional role in the current unprecedented times since the M&A activity has generally slowed down and corporates are conserving cash.
Also I would like your suggestions/advice on future career prospects given my profile! Cheers & stay safe
