Crazy to do a MSc at EU uni after not getting a RO?
hi, i never really post here but want some advice or intel. basically, i didnt convert my ib sa at a bb in NYC. currently a rising senior at a non hypsm ivy. im completely gutted and trying to figure out how to proceed.
i know I want to stay in banking. i really liked the hours and the work. so when i didnt get my return, i was of course really distraught. i took a few days to just decompress, but now i have to face reality which is that i dont have a job lined up right now for when i graduate. i dont know if ill be competitive for ft ib hiring needs (not even gonna mention the fact i am probably very messy with my techs + interviewing skills atm, i think the earliest id feel confident in my intervieiwng abilities would be early october / end of sept if i grinded, but then i feel like most ft processes are over). i also dont come from a finance major (or econ or anything relatively pertinent) so this would give me the chance to take loads of directly applicable coursework.
i know this is crazy, but i was thinking of doing a two-year MSc at Bocconi (only eu msc thats in the cards for me rn) after i graduate. there are a few reasons for this. one, its cheaper than any MSF in the US. two, (to my understanding) it would even give me the option to recruit for ib 2029 sa in the united states. I'll also, of course, have so much to reflect on from my previous experience during my bachelor's to mitigate the odds of failing.
so a few things here. one, is this even an idea i should consider? is this crazy, and is there anything that im not thinking through thats not obvious? will it be that difficult to network from a top eu msc (bocconi) and of course land back in new york? second, will i be looked down upon for doing an msc, especially when i have to explain how i didnt convert my ib sa (due to headcount reasons given the ro rate was 50%?).
i want to be realistic. i know im a hard worker, but at the moment i do not think its realistic for me to re recruit ft without offer in hand. would love to hear any intel, and please be nice im trying to think of anything i can do to stay in the industry.
thank you all, and if i can pm anybody who may be able to share relevant stories/words of wisdom id appreciate it.
