Curious About Capital Markets Group & Interview Prep Tips

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to get a better understanding of how capital markets teams operate internally and would really appreciate if anyone could share some insights!

Specifically, I’m interested in how a product is designed, purchased from the issuer, and ultimately sold to the investor—how does the deal transaction flow?

What does the capital markets team do?

how do they interact with other groups like IB? how do their internal teams collaborate (origination, structuring, what other teams)?

How does a product or deal get designed and flow through the various teams? For example, does structuring start the process, followed by origination, and then selling to investors? At each step, which team is involved, and who are they serving?

Why does each team create their own models instead of sharing one? (a silly question I know.) I’m curious about what each group models, how these models differ, and what goals they are trying to achieve.

Also, what qualities or skills should I focus on to prepare for interviews?

Any knowledge or advices would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks so much!
