Current Intern in MM doing well, should I still try to lateral to BB/EB as original plan?
Currently I am an Intern in MM IBD M&A group and doing well. Workload is manageable and I am in three live deals, get along with co-workers well and enjoy company working environment. Time is good here too. Most time leave office round 9PM, one or two times a week probably leave around 11PM. Never stay after 11PM. Feedback form analyst and VP is good too. Now I am a little hesitant if I still should try to lateral to BB/EB according to my original plan? My long-term career plan is switch to PE after working in IBD 2 years. If I stay in this MM company, do I still have chance to go MF or even UMM? How different from PE MF, UMM, MM and LMM? I heard this company almost no analyst exit MF before. This is kind of discouraging. I have done intern in very small PE firm and should opportunity if want switch to PE firm.
People said working in BB/EB has much more opportunities to Mega Fund. But I heard BB/EB hour is terrible. In GS and JPM even as intern working to 12AM is normal. Sometime is 3AM. My currently MM firm hours is much better. Changing job also need adapt new working environment, get reputation from VP and co-workers. Lots of unknown and challenging...Current company I feel comfortable and confident, if not think about better exit opportunities and bright future, I probably won't think about lateral to BB/EB.
How do you think about this situation? If you were me, what would you do? Any suggestion or opinion is appreciated!
If you like working where you're at, why leave? If you like investing that much I understand but if the PE goal is purely for more comp/prestige/"less hours", you should really take the prestige lens off
