Most banks still have relatively high levels of professionalism, and as such you want candidates to display that they can emulate that same level of professionalism. Failing to get an appropriate haircut before a big job interview isn’t a great look, especially considering the candidate I interviewed before you and after you probably have similar credentials and an appropriate haircut.

Agree with first post... cut it. I am not a mullet hater at all but consider the audience is older and fairly conservative - at least 50% of your interviewers' first impression of you will be unprofessional/sloppy.

As a similar anecdote, I interviewed someone a year or two ago who was underprepared and wouldn't have made it through anyway, but his sloppy and bizarre mustache was so distracting I could barely focus on his answers. Every interviewer came out and called him the mustache kid. There's just no reason to give anyone a reason to ding you.

This is another case where the upside / downside risk is imbalanced - lots of downside if people are more traditional and view you as unprofessional (both higher % and more negative of a reaction - you could get dinged on this alone by some), whereas the upside you get from some dude going "sick flow bro" is quite limited (fewer % of people will think this and nobody's giving you an offer purely because of the mullet).

I grew my hair out to quite a bit during COVID to the point it could be put up in a man bun, and I cut it before interviewing (and this was in SF, not the east coast). Just not worth it.

There's a disgusting number of private school kids in the UK who as soon as they get to uni, for some reason get mullets. It looks awful and they're all genuinely awful people too. I would so HEAVILY ding someone for having one of those bcos it shows what low level of self awareness they have for the job.
