Hey there,
Mistakes happen to a lot of people, I have had my fair share where my boss mentioned that I have not grown in certain areas, despite some fair advice. Remember multiple times when documents were not formatted consistently etc, at the beginning of my career. The fact that the VP here told it to your face is good. He could have easily waited till end of internship and not given you any feedback and put spoken ill of you behind the closed doors.
This is anecdotal evidence, I accepted my mistakes, and tried my best to never repeat the same mistakes. At some point I kept a short record of the key comments, and went through them before I submitted it to him.
I also got the best piece of advice from this VP superstar, who told me, to ask for advice proactively from others, I would have someone more approachable in the team, have a quick look into my work product before I shared it with the big guns, these guys helped me smoothen the output better. Before long my boss only had to comment on key points like how could we improve the underlining assumptions instead of why are there format inconsistencies. Asking for advice from those near to you is good. If there is no other approachable, I will ask my boss if he has time to give me some advice (I do this early in the process), and try to ask intelligent questions (rather early), he ends up giving good advice which ultimately makes my output much better.
Again anecdotal evidence. Wish you the very best!
Thanks so much! It's really helpful. Will do my best not to make any mistake and ask advice a lot.
Even if English isn't your native language, just based on your posts here alone I unfortunately see where the VP is coming from (assuming you work in the US or UK). He probably isn't able to trust any of your work without doing a really thorough fix of basic grammar and spelling. I dunno, maybe throw the text you write into ChatGPT or something and see if that can help catch some errors as a suggestion.
I know most banks don't allow chatgpt, but you should definitely get it anyway. Get GPT 4 subscription and have every line be passed through it, so that you understand why what you're writing is wrong
