In the end its your decision, but here are some things to think about.

  • You probs know this but a lot more hours in IB, an easy week will be 60-70 hours assuming you are joining as an Analyst/Associate with busy weeks rnaging from 80-100 hours. Expect weekend work too, not all the time but enough to where I would have to tell you and warn you.
  • Career goals of PE and manageable hours will still be an easy week of about 60 hours btw if you want to do that longterm.
  • A lot more exit opportunites and "prestige" of IB on your resume is def a pro though too.
  • Long term career, if you want a wife and kids down the line. Its doable in IB but certainly not easy if you want to be a family man, if it's not a concern at this EXACT moment, go for it and get the experience of IB and maybe change career paths later.
  • Powerpoint experience will come along it's not hard to learn imo, sure you'll be fine.
  • IB isn't known for great culture or hours so def keep that in mind.

Not trying to shit on IB, I work in it, but the truth is you do it for the money AND the resume builder to say to any company whether its PE,PC, AM, or any other corporate role you want to exit too that you can be an Investment Banker, which regardless of what some people on this forum say isn't easy.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment. My biggest concern is that I go into IB and either don't like or truthfully am unable to handle it - either ways I also lose my current job that I am satisfied with as well.

I know it's a rant and I need to make my own decision, but just want to brainstorm and get some validation I guess.

Yah I definitely understand the concern. When it comes to not being able to handle it, I think you could. I don’t know you personally but you have an offer and as a PU&I banker myself. The modeling aspect of the job is can get difficult for any new employee in IB but you say ur good at it so I’m sure you’d be fine from an intellectual standpoint, just comes down to organization and how easy u get stressed. For the not liking it part, I’ll describe it like this. Most jobs out there are you work so you can live and nothing more which is chill. IB jobs is a BIG life style change which doesn’t come with most corporate jobs. Going to bed way later cause of work and less relaxing time/seeing friends or fam, weekend work, always something to do, not really time for the gym unless you’re a morning gym goer but if u go to bed at 1am good luck. I know this seems bleak but just want you to be prepared for what you might be getting into so you choose. With this said even if you only do it for a couple of years, it’s something you could carry with you forever to say you could do it. I personally am only an analyst, but I do very much enjoy the work but def not doing this after my twenties are over unless I’m gonna be making absolutely generational wealth

P.S. even if you love you current job now, I’m sure if you did take the IB offer and chose to leave after 2 years cause you hated. That only boosts you’re resume for these developers to have been on that side of the deal. So you’d be able to get a similar type of job again just pay cut to IB and dif team then current job ur at
