Do banks verify transcripts/gpa anymore??

Are there banks that don't request an official transcript during the recruiting process or once you receive an offer [instead they just cross reference that you actually attended the school]. I've heard of kids stretching ECs or gpa to the moon and seemingly retaining their offers

Heard of ppl whose banks never asked or cared, obviously the better ones probably do. Honestly to anyone that has below a 3.5, they’re fucked anyways and might as well

My gpa dropped after a bad finals season where I had strep throat. At 3.3 now. Will be at a BB next summer. Am I fucked or should I let HR know?

Sometimes captured by the 3P they hire to do background checks, sometimes not. Sometimes requested and sometimes not - depends on the firm and may ask others there who have been hired recently. It’s  a gamble if playing that game and need to weigh downsides with what you are solving for.

I agree with comment below that it is case by case and some firms background checks high level and others much more detailed and the point of absurdity resonates for one process I went through.

On your question don’t have enough information. If you are early in your career going through an on campus program and have provided a GPA, or other material data point that was misrepresented, offer likely being revoked and schools career center being notified and whatever implications there - that is one extreme. Other is whoever they are using doesn’t pick it up and you are ok. If later in your career you can google all sorts of execs and the fallout there from misrepresenting themselves.

Again would check with people in that program as to how detailed the background checks were and what info they had to provide vs blindly sounding out the forum as do think that will give a little more comfort. Can also ask your registrars office if typical for 3P firms to inquire about new hires and if so what information is that office providing (ie just confirming you attended and graduated, confirming that and major etc).  And you don’t need to say why you are asking other then getting information lined up / ready.
