Do I have to list that I was in Public Finance IB on my resume?
Hi all,
I'm interning at a bank (think JPM/WF/Citi/BAML) in their public finance investment banking division for the summer. I was wondering, can I just put 'Investment Banking Summer Analyst' on my resume, or would I be better off putting the 'Public Finance' before it?
That is to say, will recruiters/interviewers auto-ding me if I get an interview with them and only then do I reveal that I did Pub Fin. IB? It's kind of obvious from my experience listed that I wasn't building M&A models/doing valuation work, but still.
But other than that, it was investment banking and the position was an Investment Banking SA, the hours were 75-85 hrs per week, and I was being paid the same as my counterparts in corp fin. IB. I was stuck doing due diligence on clients, preparing slide decks, attending client meetings, etc.
Thanks
They'll ask about your experience during the interview, so you might as well come clean. Also, what were you planning to write for your bullets? Most of that would probably give it away anyways.
Come clean. They will notice by the bullet points as IB and Pub Fin skills are totally different. Sine you're a SA I don't think you will have a hard time switching to IB. Just have a good story and put a little effort in networking and you should be fine.
Best of luck.
Awesome, thanks to both of you. My bullets are pretty obviously public finance oriented, though I tried to spin them as being relevant to corp. fin IB. I'm spending my summer networking (or trying to at least) and learning my technicals and stuff, so hopefully I can get a full time gig but who knows.
Holy shit dude, you're still a fucking SA at a large bank. Is this what the world has come to? People freaking out about group placement as an intern?
Reading comprehension is difficult, I understand, but if you actually read through my post, you'd know that I'm wondering if I can leave off "Public Finance" in front of "Investment Banking Summer Analyst" on my resume for when I go through full time recruiting.
Worrying about this is almost as absurd as people wondering if they can round a 3.45 up to a 3.5.
I was making the point that it's ridiculous to be worried because you have good experience anyways and you're only a junior...it's not as if you will be pigeonholed in public finance for life.
Cut the sarcasm, at least until you have a job
Did you seriously vote yourself up and throw monkey shit at me because you took offense at something that wasn't really criticizing you very harshly at all?
double post
this is the shit that matters most. once you get yourself on the "right" path (aka elite boutique/top bb) ure fucking set. then u just need to perform and not worry about external factors. the earlier u do that, the better.
What's wrong with Public Finance? I do Project Finance (aka Public Finance depending on the deals), and I think it's pretty awesome. You get to build financial models, read at EPC contracts/offtake agreements/concession agreements, draft term sheets, learn new technologies (like LNG - my favorite), etc.
And, I agree with the rest. Come clean. Public Finance and IB are just totally different.
What sector in Project/Public Finance? I'm doing public power, corporate utilities and PPP... you? By the sound of your comment, it seems to be similar (energy and environmental, perhaps)? Just curious - nice to know I'm not the only one on here, ha...
