Do I start in London or Hong Kong?

Currently in the process of applying for summer internships. For S&T. I am a white British Male who speaks no Mandarin/Canto.

I have worked in Hong Kong before on an internship and loved it, and would love to return.

Would be people suggest applying for summer internships in London or Hong Kong, I have some very good contacts in HK who could probably pull some strings for me and I would love to work there FT after graduating.

All opinions appreciated.

Thanks

HK - no need 4 mando/canto (tho hlpfull) - also u gt worked to the bone (suggest gtting into debt-focus group since equity dying downwwn)

If applying to HK make sure you list spanish as a foreign language, for no other reason than to baffle the HR people screening the resumes.

I'd say London for now, the BB trading desks here all have structured training programs that have been tried, tested and reworked to make the most out of them (and get the most out of you). Not to say that they don't have that in HK. The Asian markets might pick up fast in the future, so you'll want to be there when that happens. But definitely apply to both and decide later.

I'll be honest, I wouldn't want to live in HK forever, 3 - 5 years max. Although working there is fantastic, living there was quite tough imo - I personally much prefer the lifestyle in London but the work in HK. That is why I am thinking of going out there when I am fresh and young and then moving back to London when I am a bit older and thinking about starting a family and everything.

Nah not cause of the weather, I personally didn't find it too bad. There is a variety of reasons why tbh. Nothing overly specific, I just prefer living in London. But would love to work in HK while I'm young.

Hi there,

I'm curious - why would exit opps back to london be really hard? Wouldn't working in HK for a X amount of years be appealing? I know people who have done this before etc..

Cheers

I think you should try for internship in London. In my opinion many Internships In London are fantastic and extremely beneficial for lots of different people in different circumstances. I am telling you this from my personal experience. I also did my Internship in London through http://www.theinterngroup.com/london/ and I had a lovely experience. I am a finance graduate from Germany and I was considering the internship in London or Australia and finally applied for London. The experience that Internship brings is also extremely valuable and it can open doors for people who are trying to accelerate their career.
