Do I Still Have a Shot at a Summer 2025 Internship as an International Student?

Hey everyone,

I'm a junior at a non-target school and an international student currently recruiting for Summer 2025 roles in Sales, Investment Management, or Investment Banking in New York. Given that many firms have already filled their spots, I wanted to ask:

  • Do I still have a realistic chance of landing an internship this late in the cycle?
  • What firms (MM/boutiques, asset managers, or sales desks) are still hiring or worth reaching out to?
  • Any advice on effective cold outreach, networking, or alternative pathways?

I've been actively networking, applying, and improving my technical skills, but my non-target background and visa situation add challenges. I would love to hear any insights or late-cycle success stories from others in similar situations!

if you are solely looking for a summer stint (no expectations on RO), you can totally use your CPT and they don't need to sponsor you and you don't even need to mention it. so to answer your questions:

Do I still have a realistic chance of landing an internship this late in the cycle?

Yes as long as you try hard enough and set the bar low enough

What firms (MM/boutiques, asset managers, or sales desks) are still hiring or worth reaching out to?

idk anything about AM/ sales but we we are strictly talking about IB, look for LMM or regional boutique with around 10 bankers (1k linkedin followings) as they are more likely to not have a formal recruiting process but use interns on an as need basis

Any advice on effective cold outreach, networking, or alternative pathways?

send 100 emails every week to alumni who works in banking (since you are from a non-target i think you can find alumni that are working in boutiques), and just cold email everyone

Good luck!

I recruited at a target ivy and many of non-diverse international Asian males struck out who weren’t late. Realistically, it’s not worth your time to recruit this late and near impossible. Your best bet should be through an msf program following your graduation, which I’ve seen people land some gigs.
