Do you have to meet up for coffee during networking, or is a phone call enough? And is it too late to network?

I want to be based in new york next summer for IB, but I'm interning in a city far away and won't be able to meet up with bankers. I have very good stats but wondering if just a phone call will be enough to get me an interview. Will this be a problem for SA 2020 recruiting?

Also, is it too late to network now for SA 2020? Or is there still hope

I'm also recruiting for 2020 SA. I've gotten a couple referrals just from a single phone call. It's a numbers game for sure. It's not too late, but you should start immediately. Pretty much everyone hasn't finished except RBC and Citi. Some have closed applications and some have taken 1/2 their class though. That being said, I made my first NY trip recently and it made a world of difference. I was able to show the people I've been speaking to that I'm serious about everything and the conversations were much more personal and I was able to transition from "he seems like he can handle the job" to "I can personally work with him."
