Do you really LIKE what you do?

Not trying to start a debate on what is a more prestigious role in finance and whether PE/HF is the ultimate exit; also not trying to attract comments like ‘if you are in PE/if you are a PM ofc you will like what you do.’

I’m genuinely curious about your passion and motivation to stay in this industry, and besides money and prestige, why do you want to be in the role you are currently at? Do you feel that you got pigeonholed into such a tiny aspect of the industry for so many years and ended up not feeling furfilled?

I think most people will say they can’t see themselves doing anything else, which could be a good answer IMO.

Believe it or not, there’s not a lot of things in the world where you are almost certain you will get rewarded (materially and mentally) for putting more hours in and staying in the game.
^i might be wrong, but please don’t tell me
