Drop Econ Major for higher GPA?

Junior at HYPSM interning at MBB next summer. Drop Econ for ~3.9, or keep for ~3.8. If I dropped, I'd pursue political science, history, or english.

Law school is something that intrigues me, and I know GPA is really important in that process.

Thanks!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights:

  • GPA Importance for Law School: GPA is indeed crucial for law school admissions. A higher GPA can significantly enhance your chances, especially if you're aiming for top law schools.

  • Major Considerations:

    • Political Science, History, or English: These majors might allow you to achieve a higher GPA, which is beneficial for law school applications.
    • Economics: While maintaining an Economics major with a slightly lower GPA (3.8) is still strong, the marginal difference in GPA might be worth considering if it significantly impacts your law school prospects.
  • General Advice:

    • Maximize GPA: As noted in previous WSO threads, maximizing your GPA is a straightforward way to boost your chances of success in professional steps post-graduation.
    • Passion and Interest: Choose a major that you are passionate about and can excel in, as this will likely reflect in your GPA and overall academic performance.

Given your interest in law school and the importance of GPA in that process, it might be beneficial to switch to a major where you can achieve a higher GPA. However, ensure that the new major aligns with your interests and strengths.
