My understanding is corporate advisory is a mixture between M&A and consulting. You will be advising the clients on various issues like expansion or cost cutting and whether it can be done through inorganic growth (M&A) or alternatives to M&A (joint venture, strategic alliance, franchising).
I guess it could be act as a filter based on what the client needs for larger banks. In addition, I believe that there would definitely be modelling involved but definitely not as detailed as M&A.
I think you need to know that there isn't really a specific term for the range services and it is more important about the context and what they do. For example, financial adviser can refer to sales of insurance as well.
