Dual-Degree Engineering Program (Ivy) for IB Recruiting
Hello. Im committed to a T20 LAC (NESCAC) for this upcoming fall, and was wondering about how useful their dual degree engineering program would be for IB recruiting. They offer it with Dartmouth and Columbia, and i've attached some details below.
Dartmouth:
- Is a five-year program in a 2/1/1/1 format. Two years at LAC to start, then alternate years between schools
- Graduate with a B.A. from my home institution and a B.E. from Dartmouth
Columbia (3+2):
- 3 years at LAC, followed by two years at Columbia to complete the program
- Graduate with a B.A. from home institution and a B.S. in engineering from Columbia
My main question is would having the Ivy name on my resume meaningfully improve my chances for breaking into IB? Or is the brand value not worth the extra year, especially since I'd only be getting an undergrad engineering degree rather than a grad level credential?
Also during my time when ill be studying at the Ivy institution, would i get access to the resources (OCR, clubs, alumni network, etc) like the students already there, or would i just simply not be there long enough to access that stuff.
Appreciate any thoughts.
It’s pretty pointless and won’t help at all. You won’t really have the alumni network of the school you’re doing that 2 year masters.
Also if you’re saying you’re at a T20 then you’re unfortunately unlikely at one of the LACs that has much luck with IB placement. If you’re set on IB transfer out after a year, def a ton of semi targets would be possible and could stretch for a target.
Not really gonna help with finance out of undergrad I’d try to transfer after one year
