Easier to break in from non target vs semi target?

I recently saw a post talking about how hard it is to break in from a semi target because of the amounts of kids recruiting who lowkey have good resumes and experiences.

I think it’s easier to break in from a non target with no on campus interviews if your school at least has some presence on Wall Street. I went to a small non target where only 5-10 kids seriously recruited every year but of them probably 7-8 got offers in BB or EB. All it took for me was networking with the few MDs and analyst alumni and getting referrals pretty easily since almost no other kids were networking.

Is this a similar experience at all non targets or is my experience the exeption? Bc if it happens everywhere then is going to a non target over a semi target the method if u don’t get into a target?
