Economics Major at Target
I’m wondering if taking Economics at UT Austin will hurt my chances at getting a IB job in NYC. Will I have a much harder time finding one with an Econ major or will it not matter because of my school.

UT Austin business is a target, but UT Austin as a whole isn't.
Yeah, it's going to make it prety hard. UT Austin McCombs itself probably won't get you to NYC. If you want to be in NYC, you'll probably want to try to be in not only McCombs, but also the Canfield Business Honors Program to have a good shot. If you're truly passionate about economics, I would look at Rice as it's also in Texas, but doesn't have an undergrad business school so you would have to major in economics. If you're set on UT, I would double major in business and econ or maybe just minor in econ. Good luck!
Very great advice thank you!
Tbh whenever I see an econ major from someone who went to a school with a business school I just assume they missed the cutoff and didn't get into their business school. At least that's how it was at my college. If you spent a little too much time partying freshman year and your GPA was too low to recover to get into the business school when it was time all those people usually majored in econ. Not sure if all undergrad business schools have application processes or GPA cutoffs to get in
thought the same thing until I took an upper level econometrics course. Granted this was the cream of the crop, but some of those kids ran circles around me and one ended up going to oxford for a masters in econ.
