Evercore C&R - What Happened?
Spent my entire career in consumer retail (A2A) at a BB but been looking to jump to an independent / boutique shop.
Did some research on Evercore's C&R group and it seems like it imploded recently. Anyone know what happened? Head of group left (some scandal?), couple MDs jumped ship, lot of junior attrition as well - all in the past 6 months or so.
Any thoughts on this group, whether it'll rebuild, or if it was ever good historically?
Curious as well. Know they were weirdly strong in mattresses (Serta Simmons, Mattress Firm) and bev (one of the partners owns / founded WhistlePig whiskey)
Head of group and absolute rainmaker had an affair with a younger banker and was shown the door. He now moved to Lazard along with another MD.
With regards to the rest of the team, there is not much more to discuss: when the person responsible for a lot of the budget leaves, it is common for others to see it as their cue to exit for greener pastures. No one wants to be on board while the Titanic sinks.
“Younger”. What level was she
How do even even get that big as a banker? Like is it just a matter of playing that Rolodex harder than anyone else? As someone new to the industry the “connections” seem so insignificant…. Can’t imagine how to leverage them to bring in business once let alone be as important as some of these guys
Evercore’s open door policy was taken a little too serious between seniors with juniors. Needless to say they are now at Lazard
Was it actually an intern? I thought it was a more senior person
