Excess NI Contributions
Has anyone heard of non–UK nationals / non-residents who successfully claimed excess National Insurance refund? I'm planning to write a letter to HMRC regarding that; and I'm planning to highlight that I didn't stay long enough to acquire the Resident Status for this tax year, and that I've never come to UK before the last SA. I also want to highlight that I'm a non–UK national who was charged NI Contributions based on an IB per annum salary that I only earned for 10 weeks – thereby having a real total gross for the tax year that's not much more than the £12,570 allowance, as I've never been employed after the SA
I did an off-cycle in London a couple years ago as a non-UK citizen and managed to claim back £4.5k (for reference I was on a £50k base)
Instead of writing a letter I would advise you check the dedicated section on the gov.uk website, claim process is time-consuming but worth the effort
How long after initiating the claims process did you actually get it?
4-6 months
In my case, I was unemployed since after the summer internship with them, so my employer can't issue a P60 (P60s can only be issued to CURRENT-employees)—and the company managed to lose my P45 (missing). Is it likely that merely attaching my payslips—which contain my insurance contributions—and attaching my Statement Of Earnings will make the refunds successful?
I'm yet to hear from the Insurance Office after more than 8 weeks
Nothing yet 4 months on (after mailing them twice)
