Exiting to the NBA?
This might be more geared for the Consulting folks, but wanted to hear thoughts on anyone that's heard of someone exiting into some type of Front Office role for an NBA team or the league itself? I know Daryl Morey worked at EY Parthenon prior to his Rockets stint and am curious as to anyone else that's heard of these stories.
0.001%. Morey also took a huge risk by essentially working in middle office for the Celtics after his EY stint, and was lucky to be promoted.
There is a MM IB analyst who left for a NFL/NBA front office corp dev/corp strategy job on here apparently. I think he/she has only posted a few times - poster is I believe SportsBanker. Got their dream job but I'm sure luck/timing played a role.
What does front office at NBA/NFL/etc entail? Is there a more traditional background for those roles other than IB?
I have no clue. I know someone who tried breaking into it (strategy/operational roles, not corp dev) and had no luck. Struck out at MBB recruiting and ended up going for tech. This was from undergrad.
Getting into a sports league corp dev position like the NFL would probably be easier honestly (still very tough). I think having a M&A background or covering TMT companies in IB is probably the best way to go about recruiting for these roles vs consulting.
