Exits for burnout associates

All,

Ignore title. Currently a senior associate at a top BB. Don’t want to go to a client and not interested by PE either. Finally, I am covering an industry with specific metrics (think Infra/Real Estate) limiting even more exits.

I am completely burnout and my seniority makes it harder to exit the field. I have always been interested by S&T but given my lack of computer science / maths background, it seems out of reach as well. Is there any other way to lateral internally to markets / S&T positions with decent pay and more reasonable hours given my background?

ou can pivot into markets without a quant/CS background. Focus on structured products, trading support, sector research, or risk roles—your industry expertise is a differentiator. Internal networking is key, and brushing up on Excel/Python helps. Pay may be slightly lower, but hours and stress can improve. Pure front-office S&T is tough without heavy quant skills, but hybrid/flow roles are realistic.

Simply put:

  • Target hybrid/flow roles: Structured products, trading support, or sector-focused research—your industry knowledge counts.
  • Leverage internal network: Connect with S&T desks, PMs, and risk teams; pitch your domain expertise.
  • Upgrade selectively: Quick Excel/Python skills boost your competitiveness without a full CS/math background.
