Fake ID for FT IB Analyst

Is it worth getting one? I'll need it for a bit more than a year after starting FT this summer, I'm not sure if it's worth the expense (not even sure how to obtain one), or if it won't be necessary and we'll be busy the whole first year of the job and not going out due to COVID. I also don't mind going out and not drinking but idk if NYC bars have that option.

I definitely would but be sure to get it from a good source. I got my first one when I was in high school from a really weird place and it did not hold up for long.

Dayman?

Curious. Is it a good idea to use a fake ID as a SA when invited out for happy hour with associates/VPs? I won't be turning 21 til end of year

Watch out for IDGod. I got mine from them and it’s peeling and useless. EvolvID is much better for a similar price. Also, trust me when I say you need a Texas ID

Terrible idea and you risk getting blacklisted if people find out. And remember, every time you fill out paperwork for your firm you include DOB...  believe me if someone sees your credentials starting FT That person would talk about it with others (and their friends at other banks) word has probably gotten out with your team already and others at other banks may know too. Now imagine what happens when one of them happens to be at the same bar...

I understand the concern, but why would they be concerned with seeing me at a bar? It wouldn't be harming them right? I went out with other interns after work to bars before when I was a minor and they didn't seem to care (but no managers were there).

You’re entering one of the most cutthroat industries dominated by Type A individuals. You getting fired makes it easier for someone else to get top bucket bonus or A2A. Obviously not everyone is like this but there’s always that one person and all it takes is one person to end it for you. But we’ve only assumed your fellow analyst class is at the bar. If by chance a manager walks in or HR/Compliance well you already know it’s basically game over. There’s an issue of trust here. If you are seen recklessly breaking the law, how can you be trusted with working with confidential info day in and day out? This may seem like a logical fallacy but the potential liability isn’t worth it for the bank especially when you are so easily replaceable.

Edit: Someone also mentioned this is enough for the firm to have to fire you. See below

Who is gonna give a shit really

If you're going after work with coworkers and you're in business attire, I can guarantee you'll never get carded. I never got carded when I interned in NYC because I was always in a suit.

I am OP and I have done this a few times since I was 16, I can pass for around 25-35 right now. Maybe I'll continue to do this, but I somehow doubt that colleagues will be upset if I have a fake (especially since in past internships they didn't care)

How do u know, don't give bad advice.

1) don't do anything that crosses the line for a WORK event, EVER - it's just not worth it. All it takes is one person to be an asshole or loser (which guess what there are plenty in finance).

UNLESS:

1) the seniors have left and you're hanging around with everyone after the event is over

2) you're hanging with them outside of a work setting and ALREADY know them

Yes you're not / can't just be doing whatever the fuck you want, as an adult you need to learn where the line can and can't be crossed. Exercise some self control and be mature about it, and go about it the SMARTEST way you can. Pregames are fine and going after to different bars with people you are close with is completely different than whipping it out infront of VPs and ASO's who know your age and might be sticklers or losers assholes etc.

MOST people don't care, but you're not avoiding MOST people. You should just be trying to act intelligently around situations where you run into the Minority of people who will mess with you. A little self control goes a LONG way. How are people on this website so stupid and are giving horrible advice (either 0 or 100). Do what is best, which is moderation. Do what you want outside of work for the most part, but really? Theresnothing wrong with a little self restraint for work events.

But there’s absolutely nothing wrong with getting and having the fake ID, because there are some situations you really want to use it and won’t be able to so just get one to have at the least

The question was if he should get a fake, not if he should drink at work events. Getting drinks with the other analysts is a good way to bond and make friends. And even if he doesn’t want to use his fake in front of the other analysts, a fake will be important if he wants to take girls on dates to bars.
