FAS SA to IBD FT

I'll be interning in Financial Advisory Services (deal dependent mix of M&A and restructuring) with a decent firm this summer. I'm planning to network a lot with a strong alumni base from a target/semi-target school, but with a middle-ish/lowish GPA, no prior IB experience (some PE though if it counts), and the rumored difficulty of FT recruiting these days, is it too much of a long-shot to try over focusing my networking in more relevant fields (say like leveling up to better firms in FAS or doing going for an F500 corp fin FLDP)?

The group I'll be working with has an industry focus and also does some MM investment banking, but I can't guarantee that I'll get significant exposure. I'm not talking FT IBD at top BBs or EBs, but I'm wondering more about lower BBs or quality MM firms.
