Fast technical interview good or bad?
Recently had a technical interview where I think I answered everything competently but the interview was short (like 15 min out of 30) then I filled 5 min with a couple of questions.
Thinking either they had a list that I burned through quickly or "this guys hopeless" no inbetween - what's usually the cause?
Most would tell you if you kept on getting the technicals wrong, so wouldn't automatically worry about that. Any specifically you are worried about?
Thanks I appreciate it. I got re-asked 1 question from a different angle because I missed part of the response, but was able to immediately recognize and give the rest of the answer.
I was in the last interview of a super day, and this happened. I definitely got all the technicals right; they told me I did. We then started talking about random stuff, and the interviewer actually asked me to stay after to chat if I was interested. We talked for another 20 mins, and it was a good convo. I thought, why would they ask me to stay after if they are going to ding me? I thought I was a slam dunk for an offer, but I ended up getting dinged. The point being, don't try to read anything from your interview - it will just make you paranoid.
Sounds like that guy might have liked you, but others in the team may have liked someone more. Having interviewed people for IB roles this often occurred.
No one in IB has free time to just kill in an interview. IMO the fact he stayed on 20 mins longer is positive
Thanks for the follow-up, MoMo. I edited it and abbreviated "MoMo" to be short for a previous username/account that I believe you are familiar with. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to look at two posts and recognize the same syntax. You can do better, but at least throw me a banana for the edit.
Don’t read too much into it. I had very short interviews where I was rejected right after and ones where I was moved when I least expected it. One time I answered all questions correctly and still didn’t get it but it wasn’t a fit from both sides. You did what you could, keep interviewing until you hold an offer in hand and good luck
