Feel Iced out after PTO

So I'm a 2nd year at a NYC MM firm (started June '22) - I took a week off to spend time with family because a close relative had some major health issues. I gave a month heads up and a week before reminder, but got a few snarky comments upon returning and feel like I'm being kept somewhat out of the loop on stuff I was previously working on. Any idea how to navigate?

Agree, this is quite toxic and I would think twice about staying long-term in a place like that. PTO is PTO. You, presumably, work hard enough as it is when you’re not on vacation. No one should be bothering you about the ~2 weeks a year you’re out.

At the end of the day, the week you spent with family in a critical time is much more important than any slide deck or annoying comment from a delusional colleague. When I was an analyst, I postponed a couple previously planned vacations myself last-minute, fearing I’d miss out on some important milestone that popped up on an ongoing project. But as with many things in IB, deal deadlines often get pushed and it was almost rarely, if ever, worth it. Things are almost never as important as you think. Work will always be there when you come back, family/friends might not.

Be careful about assuming any of this is intentional.  I’m un-intentionally icing someone out as we speak. Things have been too busy for months on end to get him into the flow, and I know he’s probably worried about it but it never feels right to set time aside for that when there’s always something more urgent.  Not saying I’m right for doing that, just saying it’s not on purpose.
