Feeling drained – quit?

Hey all, Been almost 3 years at my current shop. No promotion (even I asked for several times), kept getting deferred. Finally pulled the plug and resigned. Then MD and D told me “this can be discussed.” Now MD says everything is ok and wants me to stay — we even shook hands and my promotion done (for now??).

But honestly I still feel drained showing up every day........ talked to my friends and ex-colleagues — they all said I seem burnt out pretty often plus the workplace is really a sweatshop...... my parents told me “just take a break, it’s just a job.”

Anyone been in a similar spot? Did taking a break help or make it harder to get back in? Curious if others have gone through this cycle.

I did last year after my bonus. I took 2 months to relax and travel, 2 to recruit, and ended up with a nice job at a growing tech company in the city I wanted with a decent salary.

I am happier now. It's not the end of the world like some people make it seem, do what is right for you. My parents, especially my mom gave me the same advice, and it took me a long time to listen but she was right. Also if you get a job outside of financial services the work environment and people are a lot better, but maybe I got lucky.
