fellow analyst 1’s getting way more staffings, should I be concerned

2 months in but realizing that my fellow analyst ones are getting WAY more staffings than me. they are on 2-4 things at once and most ive ever been on is 1. There are spans where I literally have nothing for 2-3 days. I’ve reached out to associates saying im more than happy to help them with whatever but they always say thanks but nothing for me right now. The things I have been staffed on I’m not a rockstar but I never botched anything too horribly, so i dont think its a performance issue. If it matters I am the only one to not intern in my group so maybe they just prefer to give work to everyone they know already? any ideas/what should I do/be concerned?

Probably because the vp doesn’t have a good feel for everyone’s capacity at the moment. Our group had a disproportionate workload until they came up with a log

Capacity as in current workload. How many things are you currently on? It could be that you and your fellow analyst are getting staffed on the same amount of projects but the others could be more active

Step 1. Use the extra down time to practice whatever it is your doing. Learning how to do things correctly and quickly is key.

Step 2. After you feel like you’ve gotten enough practice - reach out to your staffer and flag that you have capacity.

Note:

After you finish a process / deliverable, might be helpful to call your associate and ask for any initial feedback. They might B/S you and say “good job” but it wouldn’t hurt to just ask.

Reach out to take on another project.

If you still don't get some projects put on your plate or its shitty pitches / bd work you've got a problem. Bottom rated analysts are often staffed last.

I was initially on one deal which is a slow burn. Then got on a second project about a month in which kinda stalled out. I barely had anything to do on these last month. Just got put on a third deal and it's way more active. Probably tripled my hours this week. At the same time of course both my initial projects got busier.

Honestly I think you’re completely fine and once your staffer figures out what people are doing it’ll even out.

Take it from someone who is an A2A, these periods will happen and you should absolutely try to utilize it to recuperate/rest up/study on any aspects of the job you feel uncomfortable with. This job has surges and ebbs, its much easier to survive if you focus on regaining or preserving energy during the calm periods.

99% chance your staffer just does not understand the staffing burden at the moment and it will resolve itself soon. For what its worth, I have learned more in these calm periods by re-creating/creating from scrach DCF, LBOs, Merger models than I have in my day to day job tasks.
