FIG vs Energy coverage
Hi!
I have currently got an offer in FIG coverage and one in Energy coverage both at elite boutiques. My goal is to move to a private Equity. Which do you think has the best exit opportunities?
Thank you in advance :)

FIG offers more optionality, especially if you get exposure to different verticals including EBITDA-driven businesses like FinTech and Asset Managers. Energy has less overlap in that regard and is very likely to pigeonhole you. At the end of the day depends on what you like, but I'd choose FIG every day.
Thank you so much, this is very helpful!
Yea FIG gets a bad rep on here because of depositories and insurance but there are other great verticals. Even if you do a depository or insurance deal, you’ll become an expert in complex modeling.
What’s the beef with depositories and insurance?
I’d say going with what’s interesting is the more sensible approach. Energy will get you to PE but obviously it will be energy and infra PE shops.
Coming from a previous energy banker, pick FIG for pe exits. Some FIG verticals are pretty popular for PE business - insurance brokerages, asset managers and payments / other fintech businesses
What are energy group exits like?
What level is this for and is it lateral?
They are both internships and I am currently doing an internship in PE - didn’t manage to find a full time unfortunately..
Energy coverage in Houston or "Natural Resources" in NY? FIG is very dependent on what the bank covers...don't get stuck in Depositories at a MM
Thank you that helps! Both roles will be based in London
