Identify a market trend in an industry they’re involved in and ask their opinion on it.
Ex: for a real estate debt financing focused firm I would ask “considering how over leveraged many regional banks currently are with exposure to office buildings, have clients been affected by a shift towards private credit loans and how would you predict this changes in the future”?
