Finance Recruiting Timelines Keep Getting Earlier

I wanted to share something I wish I had when I was starting out — a clear outline of how early finance recruiting actually happens now.

From what I’ve seen (and went through myself):

  • Sophomore Fall: Networking and on-campus events start as early as September. Get involved with clubs on campus (usually will find out about networking events, applications, etc. through clubs) and it's a good time to try to get a leadership positions or extracurricular experience for resume and interviews.
    • Also, keep an eye out for diversity & women's programs to apply to, if applicable
    • Over Winter break, I highly recommend taking time to get ahead of preparing / studying for interviews
  • Sophomore Spring: Applications are live and interviews can begin as soon as January
  • Summer Before Junior Year: Most internship offers are locked in even before your sophomore internship
  • Junior Summer Internship: Basically your audition for a full-time return offer.

I’ve been writing down notes like this to help younger students/professionals, especially women breaking into finance, not only with recruiting but also how to manage the stress and wellness side of things.

Curious — for those who’ve gone through it recently, do you feel like the timeline keeps creeping earlier every year? And if you’re prepping now, what’s the hardest part of balancing recruiting with everything else?
