Another intern at my firm was fired this year because they found out he had signed an offer for next year at a different bank

also heard that. i was told that one guy sent a bunch of incriminating stuff to HR to purposely mess up the kid's internship.

unless you’re not showing up or actively hindering things really significantly, like literally deleting files, it’s pretty much impossible. I guess if they found out that you had already signed somewhere else full-time for next year (I don’t know how this would be possible mid-internship), it’s pretty much impossible to get cut. It’s a ridiculous amount of paperwork for them to terminate you early, and since it’s only about 10 weeks or so a lot of firms would rather just ride it out and not give a return offer then go through that

Heard of an intern who got fired a few years back during orientation for using a fake ID.

I wouldn't consider this impossible to bounce back from - you could probably find a last minute local / internship and re-recruit for full-time IB and just never speak of this. Of course not having a junior year IB internship would make things difficult but not impossible. I don't know what ever happened to the guy in this case.

Really the only times getting fired is going to be impossible to bounce back from if its 1) regulatory related or anything else with criminal charges, or 2) something that's made very public or goes viral. Not going to give any examples of the latter, but it's def happened before.

Your career is a lot longer than your internship or analyst years. While early fuck ups make strike you out of like MF PE and the sort, pretty much anything else is fair game in the grand scheme of things.
