Following Up
Hey all, interested to see how people on here follow up with contacts for recruiting. Currently a sophomore at a non-target that networked a ton during last fall to prep for recruiting timeline being super early and had mostly great convos. All contacts told me to keep in touch with them/text them if i need anything but when i text them a few months later asking to chat / ask if they could refer me to someone on their team they just go ghost even after 2-3ish followups. Is it because recruiting season just started and everyone's super busy or am I texting the wrong question that doesn't warrant a response? Curious to hear everyone's input here.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's not uncommon for contacts to go silent, especially during busy recruiting seasons. Here are a few points to consider when following up with your contacts:
Timing: If you're reaching out during a busy recruiting period, it's possible that your contacts are swamped with work and recruiting duties. It's important to be mindful of their time constraints.
Frequency: Following up 2-3 times is generally acceptable, but you want to space out your follow-ups to avoid coming across as pushy. A week or more between follow-ups is a good rule of thumb.
Content: Make sure your messages are concise and to the point. Clearly state your request and why you're reaching out. If you're asking for a referral, be specific about what you're looking for and why you think they would be the right person to help.
Value Proposition: Offer something of value in your communication. This could be an update on what you've been doing since your last conversation, sharing an article you think might be of interest, or offering to help them in some way.
Alternative Methods: If texting isn't getting a response, try emailing or calling. Sometimes, switching up the method of communication can yield better results.
Move On: If after several attempts you don't receive a response, it's okay to move on and focus on other contacts. Not everyone will have the time or interest to respond, and that's part of the networking process.
Remember, networking is a numbers game, and not every contact will lead to an opportunity. Keep building your network, stay persistent, and continue to follow up with new and existing contacts in a professional manner.

Bump
Take and pass the SIE. Then email everyone providing an update. Your welcome.
It’s just that we get so many emails like that and all of these follow up emails blend together. When you see over 10 emails everyday with the same ask then you are less likely to respond
how do u suggest i approach this, dont wanna lose the contact
I would reach out after you got an interview invite. If you are networking to get an interview then it’s hard unless it’s a really small boutique
bump - had little to no luck getting in contact with them
