For People Aspiring To Network..Use All Your Resources

I found myself in a rather unique situation the other night and thought I would share with the WSO Network....

About a week ago I ran into a guy I used to live on the same floor with (freshman year) in the library bathroom. It was nice to see him as I haven't in a while and thought it would be nice to catch up. We basically just talked about upcoming finals and school work and what not. Then, he asked about my major...

Of course I then told him my major (Acct/Fin.) and he was surprised to hear that as he thought I was something else in the business school. He told me his Dad was in finance and could possibly be willing to help me. He then proceeded to tell me that his Dad was an MD at Lehman and Barclays and could give me his email/phone number.

So, fast forward a few weeks and I have had email conversations with him as well as a 30 minute phone call. He's willing to push my resume around to people he knows in the industry and I couldn't be thankful enough.

I guess I was just surprised by this opportunity considering if I didn't bump into him, I would never have this opportunity for myself.

My lesson here (for college students and professionals) is you never know when you are going to meet someone who might know someone else that can help you within the industry..there is a vast power to networking.

Does anyone else have a story similar to this?

A few years ago I went to a wedding which I did not want to go to at all. I was severely hungover and due to the nights shenanigans, actually had to go to Emerg to get a body party checked out for some idiotic damage. My parents dragged me to this wedding, and I saw my Dad call me over from across the room - I knew something was up by the way he called me as he would never signal me over in the manner which he did. Talked to his old friend for 5 minutes and he ended up pushing my resume at his accounting firm and landed a job there.

This is probably the one and only connection my parents have so looking back I'm glad I dragged my bitch ass out to that wedding.

Edit: small spelling & grammar mistakes
