Forensics --> Valuation...advice?
I know this might not go in this specific forum, but it's the most active and wanted to see if anyone had any advice for making career change (no luck in CF Forum). I don't necessarily anticipate trying to switch to IBD, but don't want to totally cross that off the list so I guess that counts for something?
I currently work in forensic accounting at a Big4 (hated audit and need experience to get CPA license). After a few years experience, I want to transition to our Valuations group to get modeling experience and assisting in M&A. Auditors typically transition to this group, but I think my experience is somewhat unique. My experience so far includes:
M&A Disputes (accounting heavy, good in understanding M&A process, minor valuation work)
Forensic Accounting, investigations, compliance (not really relevant, but doesn't hurt to know I guess), and specific industry experiences
Master's in Accounting, CPA, FVMA (DCF, M&A, Comps, Real Estate modeling, Corporate Strategy from Corporate Finance Institute), Excel, SQL, and Python
Does anyone have any advice on ways to make myself more competitive for the switch? I understand that a Big4 Valuations group would be different than IBD in terms of deal experience, but figured that people here would understand what knowledge and experience can make one competitive due to the valuation and modeling.
Thanks!
