Freshman Gap Year Student seeking Direction

Hi everyone,

I'm currently an incoming freshman at Penn CAS. I've opted to defer for two years (enrolling next fall) in order to pursue my sport at the semi-professional level, as Penn doesn't offer a Division 1 program for it (only offers club). With limited knowledge of finance but lots of time during the off-season and the upcoming year, what should I be doing right now to put myself in the best position for when I enroll at Penn and future recruiting in terms of learning technical skills, clubs, freshman courses/major, seeking internships, etc?

For context, I have a bio research background with publications in a top 10 journal. Will this give me an edge down the road, or is it completely useless? How can I use this to my advantage? If high finance is the goal, would a dual degree be a waste of time? Do finance internships with specializations in healthcare and biotech exist at the freshman/sophomore level, and are they worthwhile? I'm new to this community and trying to absorb as much as I can.

I'm also Canadian, not sure if that makes things more difficult.

Any advice would be huge, and I appreciate your time in advance.
