Anything related to demonstrating an interest in finance is fine.
Half the people on here will tell you to go work for a BBPWM branch, but you should honestly be aiming for something that's going to make you look interesting. For example, a buddy of mine worked at a fintech startup after his freshman year and is now going to IBD at GS/MS/JPM as a sophomore.
Will an internship as a mere freshman at one of the most widely recognized financial institutions in the US - as opposed to a dearth of any other possible options - help you with future recruiting?

Thank you!
If you are interested in REIB, having an internship at Fannie Mae would look excellent. Even if you aren't it would be a pretty solid opportunity IMO.
