FT Analyst Interview Prep for Non-Finance Background
Hello fellow monkeys,
It is currently FT Analyst recruiting for IB and while I have been networking and working on my resume and behavioral interview questions, I have not yet started to learn the technical materials that will be tested in interviews.
Question #1: Will I be cut any slack on the technical questions since I'm not coming from a finance background? I have taken a class on financial accounting as well as basic finance, but nothing beyond those.
Question #2: If I am cut slack on technical questions, would the technical questions get more difficult as the interview progresses (most in-depth/difficult at superdays)?
Thank you.
In the same boat but I'd just like to know how long, on average, it should take to prep for the technical portion of interviews for FT?
Honestly, I would say no because now you have more to prove coming from a non-finance background. You need to show that you really want to do IB and you have made up for lost ground through self-studying (assuming you also have no IB experience) so you need to know them pretty well at least from my perspective. My advice would be to get the BIWS 400 question interview guide if you don't already have it and learn most if not all the basic technicals in that guide and you should be fine from a preliminary standpoint. Also depending on which firm, I would say the superday is going to be more behavioral/fit and the technicals you do get will more than likely be more conceptual especially for FT.
I just went through FT recruiting and got an offer and I don't think you can make it past the first round technical interview without studying for a few weeks ahead of time. I was only going for EB/BB so it may be easier for MM but that was my experience. Best thing I ever did was read the Rosenbaum & Pearl book diligently and then went through the guides afterwards.
Do you think studying everything in BIWS including the advanced questions would be sufficient? Or was it more case study/current events driven?
