Gained 20 pounds since starting as an analyst

Hey everyone, I gained 20 pounds as an analyst and I joined 4 months ago. All I eat is junk food to make myself feel better. I haven’t moved to NY yet and my hometown doesn’t have a gym that’s close enough that I can go without feeling like I’m hurting my class ranking. I lost 20 pounds from January -> March and I can’t believe I gained it back already. I eat fast food for seamless and don’t move (maybe 1000 steps a day from going down stairs and back up grabbing water or food). I lost my jawline and look and feel like shit.

Then STOP EATING POORLY. Also, no gym is no excuse.

Buy yourself these three things: 1) Push up Handles, 2) Pull Up Bar for your door, and 3) Resistance Bands. Cardio equipment isnt needed either - go on long walks outside.

I'm not gonna sugar-coat this. You're an IB analyst, which tells me you had the will and discipline to achieve something most people can't. As for perspective, while you're stuffing your face with food because your W/L balance sucks, there are many out here jobless due to covid that would kill to be in your shoes.

Just think about that the next time you're stuffing a jumbo NY slice in your mouth and sitting on your lame excuses for why you can't workout.

Signed with Love - Jokes aside, get it done.

hey one advice i have is to throw out all the junk food in your house

if you don't have junk food in your house and eat only the healthy food like apples/bannas when ur hungry than that's half that battle there

also - 1000 steps is no buneo my guy....you need 10k minimum...i know IB analysts that easily achieve this while juggling there jobs

go out for a walk or go on the treadmill with the IPAD - it only hurts your body and mental state when you dont move

Sounds like you need to chill out with work a little bit. Do you really think it matters if you take 60 vs 90 minutes to turn comments? You’re wfh, nobody knows if you’re busy or not. How quickly you reply to emails has very little to do with being top bucket.

Use that extra time to go on a walk, facetime some friends, and yes get a workout in. Mental well-being is much more correlated to physical fitness than you think.

Your reply makes me think you missed my point: top bucket has little to do with replying to emails as fast as possible.

You stand out by being intelligent, reliable, and proactive. For example, your associate / VP would be much more impressed if you anticipated what analysis would be the best for your client, instead of sitting around waiting for comments. Being thoughtful in your work and understanding the bigger picture in your deals, all whilst perfecting the minutia (great formatting, having your modeling mechanics down) is a sustainable differentiator, and one that people notice and remember.

You might be thinking, “but these things take time, and I’ll take too long to respond!” In my first ever analyst review (I was top bucket at my BB), I got told by my staffer I sometimes rush things out too quickly and miss the nuance / bigger picture in my work.

Speed is important, but it’s not the end-all be-all. Your superiors would prefer a superior work product to a rushed one - and if you take an hour long to reply, that’s fine. Who do you think gets staffed on the $xxBn buyside mandate? The analyst that’s a rockstar at running a process, or the analyst that’s a rockstar at instantly turning comments?

And to further illustrate: if you’re truly top bucket, taking that extra step will only take you 30 minutes, and you can use the other 30 to hit the gym!
