Getting asked for a chat - I am just an analyst - how to respond?
Hello everyone, first time posting.
I recently got contacted by a student asking to meet for a chat and get to know more about the company I am working at.
Overall, the reach-out e-mail was reasonably well-crafted and, considering that I have been on the other side of the equation and am familiar with how difficult it is to break in, would like to be helpful if possible.
However, being an analyst, I don't really have any special knowledge to impart, value to add, or advice to give - or at least that's how I felt upon receiving this e-mail.
What's the etiquette here? I don't want to come across as an ass to this person but at the same time I have no idea what I would say during our chat. Any advice from more senior monkeys?
Thanks.
Are you that socially awkward? Just respond to his questions ffs
If you want to take the call, take the call. He’s the one that should be a bit nervous, not you! Usually it’s just the caller talking a bit about himself and you taking a few minutes to say what you did in university and how you ended up in the role. The caller will also ask other questions about yourself, the job, etc.
It may seem kind of awkward at first, but as you take more of these types of networking calls you will not only improve on how to talk with prospects, but also get better at talking about yourself and your job (which will be useful in your own networking calls).
